Two people were injured and had to be medevaced to Montreal for medical care in a stabbing late Tuesday in Tasiujaq.

The incident in the northern Quebec village took place inside a private home shortly after 10 p.m., said Patrice Abel, captain of investigations for the Nunavik Police Service, in a phone interview.

He said police received the first emergency call at 10:08 p.m. from a woman reporting she was “beat up.” Officers were initially unable to locate the residence, as the woman didn’t offer it. A second call four minutes later provided the house number and Nunavik police responded to the scene.

Abel confirmed that both of the people involved — a 34-year-old female and an unidentified male — were seriously injured and that it was a stabbing.

“There’s no problem for their life right now. They will be OK, but they need medical care down south in Montreal right now,” said Abel, who is in Montreal with them.

Police are investigating it as a suspected “conjugal case,” Abel said, but they have not yet determined which individual might have been the aggressor.

No charges have been laid, and Abel declined to provide more information on the injured male.
