A search is on in Kuujjuaq for a man who was reported missing last week.

Sanaak Unatweenuk was last seen on the night of June 20 when he was leaving the Kuujjuaq Inn, said Nunavik Police Service deputy Chief Shaun Longstreet in an email.

Police began their investigation June 24 after receiving a report that Unatweenuk had not shown up at work.

“Search efforts have included both ground and marine operations. Kuujjuaq’s search and rescue team, the Canadian Rangers and local volunteers have been actively assisting in the ongoing search,” Longstreet said.

Unatweenuk is described as a 31-year-old Inuk man, approximately five-foot-six or five-foot-seven and weighing about 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black cap and a black jacket with the words “Solidarity Co-op” on it.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Longstreet said.

Anyone with knowledge of Unatweenuk’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Kuujjuaq police station at 819-964-2095, or email anonymous tips to tips@nunavikpolice.ca.
