Police seized more than $40,000 and dozens of bottles of alcohol this week in an operation that targeted suppliers from both Montreal and Inukjuak.

The operation on Wednesday involving both Sureté du Québec and the Nunavik Police Service, saw five searches that uncovered 30 bottles of alcohol, more than $40,000 in cash, a long weapon and counterfeit documents, Sureté du Québec announced Thursday in a news release.

Police searched two vehicles and one residence in Montreal, as well as a building and a residence in Inukjuak.

Charges have not been laid yet but three individuals could face charges such as illegal possession of alcohol, selling without a permit, non-authorized possession of a firearm, and possession of counterfeit documents and identity theft, the release said.

Any information on alcohol contraband can be communicated confidentially to the Sureté du Québec at 1-800-659-4264.

Good work for the cops and anyone who reports illegal activity anywhere, that’s a lot of money and booze down the drain, the seized money could be put to good use, build addiction centres etc…make the bootelggers pay for the services Inuit need in their communities to become a healthy person again.

“Wonder” is pretty optimistic if he thinks $40k will “build addiction centres etc” in Nunavik. There would have to be many, many more busts to accumulate enough to do that!
Maybe the police can re-sell the alcohol to help out … no, that would be self-defeating.
But certainly it’s a step in the right direction.

Is that southern price or northen price ?

Clearly southern price, like if the northern price was anything official to use to estimate the cost; it varies according to the community and plus it is illegal. Good seize though
