The Nunavik Police Service is set to get a new police chief.

Kativik Regional Government councillors voted Monday to appoint Jean-François Bernier as police chief, during their regional council meeting.

Bernier is the deputy director of the Quebec City Police Service.

Quebec’s minister of public security has to approve Bernier’s nomination to the new position.

Bernier will replace NPS’s outgoing chief Jean-Pierre Larose, who has served as Nunavik’s police chief since 2018.

Larose is retiring, said Kativik Regional Government spokesperson Denis Abbott, who added KRG will release a statement later this week.

If approved, Bernier will be installed as interim chief during a probationary period but then may be moved into the position permanently.

Notice how the position was never offered to the public. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Justice for Quebec and anarchy for Nunavik! 🚔🤑

On November 4th we had peaceful protest against police brutality I thank the people who setup the protest. Also, who marched with us.The person that represented Puvinituq came to say condolences to my family. The person that represented KRG didn’t even come to us. Nor NV councillors
We are human that lost our son and we are still very devastated what has happened to our son. Person that represented KRG just came for publicity stunt. That has heard one side of the story.
