Residents of Chesterfield Inlet are grieving the death of a young man who drowned outside the Kivalliq community earlier this week.

Nunavut RCMP said officers were called on Wednesday, July 3, to help locate a missing person, who was reported to have fallen in the water while rafting.

The victim was egg picking around First Lake, located about three kilometres from Chesterfield Inlet.

Police and community members later recovered the man from the lake. Police say they do not suspect any foul play in the drowning.

The RCMP withheld the name of the victim at the request of his family.
