After having to spend the holidays alone because of a bout of COVID-19, Nunavut MP Lori Idlout says she is feeling energized.

Idlout had to isolate between Dec. 20 and Jan. 1 after testing positive for the virus on her return to Iqaluit from Ottawa. She announced her positive test results through an NDP news release on Dec. 24.

Luckily, Idlout said in an interview with Nunatsiaq News, her only symptoms were an itchy throat, sneezing and a headache.

She added that she got her booster shot for COVID-19 before the first sitting of Parliament on Nov. 22.

Idlout said she is not certain of where she was infected with COVID-19.

Idlout said she used social media and video calls to socialize during the holiday season even though she physically had to be alone.

“I’m so grateful for the support of my friends, family and the people who contacted me,” Idlout said.

Idlout advises anyone that has to experience isolation from COVID-19 to develop a routine.

Phone calls with family and friends, as well as looking out the window, were helpful, Idlout said.

Being patient was difficult but necessary to get through isolation and COVID-19, she added.

If someone only has mild symptoms, like she did, Idlout said it is better to be patient with getting results, given how overwhelmed the healthcare system is.

Prevention is also key, Idlout said.

“I encourage people to get vaccinated if you’re not already,” Idlout said, adding that she encourages people to also get their booster shots and to where a mask when leaving home.

Good that you have recovered, but you should not give only a statement about your mild symptoms and that Nunavummiut should get their vaccinations, you must point out that even with a full vaccination people can get Covid (just like you) and that people will die!!!!. Just as simple as this. Nobody should now let their guard down because you only had mild symptoms

What kind of bizarre comment is this? Lori should tell us that vaccinated people can still get covid? We know that by now, don’t we? Is Lori the CPHO? No? Why is this on her exactly?
