A young Qikiqtarjuaq man is now in custody following a late-night incident shortly after midnight on Feb. 25, when somebody fired a rifle outside and inside a local residence, police said in a news release on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

The RCMP in Qikiqtarjuaq arrested the man after they received a report complaining that somebody was discharging a firearm “within the hamlet,” police said.

“The adult male entered an occupied residence where he discharged his firearm several more times,” the news release said.

Police have arrested Ronald Audlakiak, 23, and charged him with 10 Criminal Code offences.

He’s been remanded into custody and will appear at the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit on March 12.

“No one was injured during the incident and only property damage to the residence occurred,” police said.
