The Government of Nunavut has a new top bureaucrat in charge of the Department of Environment.

Premier Joe Savikataaq announced the appointment of Jimmy Noble Jr. as the department’s deputy minister, effective May 13.

Noble most recently served as the GN’s director of emergency management under the Department of Community and Government Services. He has also worked as a wildlife officer and has served as a director of the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board.

“His broad experience in wildlife conservation and environmental enforcement make him an ideal fit to lead the Department of Environment,” said Savikataaq in the April 26 news release announcing the appointment.

Savikataaq thanked outgoing acting deputy minister Steve Pinksen for his service; Pinksen had sat in that role since December 2018. He now continues to be an assistant deputy minister.
