Nunavut’s population still growing

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

Except for Alberta, Nunavut’s population grew faster than in any province or territory during the last three months of 2005, Statistics Canada reported on Tuesday.

By January 1, 2006, Nunavut’s population was 30,245, up from 30,133 on October 1 last year.

That’s an increase of 0.37 per cent, beat only by Alberta, whose population grew by 0.76 per cent, thanks mainly to workers moving from other parts of Canada for jobs in the booming oil fields.

Nunavut’s population is growing just as seven out of the 13 provinces and territories are seeing their populations decline.

Canada’s population hit 32,422,999 this January.
