Nuuk festival ends summer with a bang
Last week, it was time for Nuuk’s annual end-of-summer festival.
And Nuuk’s own version of the Danish amusement park, Tivoli, organized by Nuuk scouts, drew out the crowds. Kids enjoyed trying out all the different amusement rides and games.
Musicians and theatre groups from Greenland and Denmark also performed at the Nuuk festival.
One of the performers during the weekend was Enok Poulsen from Paamiut, who received Greenland’s cultural prize this summer in recognition of his many years as a country music singer and for his cultural work in Paamiut.
Poulsen is also known in Nunavik, where he performed at Aqpik Jam festival a few years ago.
The Art, Culture and Architecture council also held a composition workshop with musicians from Nuuk, where the participating musicians worked with their own ideas and melodies.
For the first time, Greenlandic musicians worked on writing their own Greenlandic classical compositions.
“This may be the start of a Greenlandic tradition in classical music,” said Arnannguaq Gerstrøm from Art, Culture and Architecture council and a flute musician.
Nuuk’s festival ended Sunday evening with a performance of Greenlandic songs by the Nuuk Choir at the Hans Egede church.
