One person has died after what the RCMP says was a serious collision involving an all-terrain vehicle in Sylvia Grinnell Territorial Park in Iqaluit on Saturday.

Few details were released on the incident in a Facebook post by Iqaluit RCMP late Monday afternoon.

Iqaluit Emergency Services responded to the collision which involved an ATV carrying two people, RCMP said. One of the passengers later died.

There was no word whether a second vehicle was involved or of the condition of the other person on the ATV. The RCMP did not release the age or identity of the victim, or say what time the accident occurred.

Police said their investigation is continuing and are asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 979-1111.
