One-twelfth of the way there

Iqaluit’s city council voted unanimously to accept an interim one-twelfth budget for month of January, 2007 at a special council meeting Dec. 22.

The interim budget will deal only with the city’s operating budget for January.

Since the 2007 city budget wasn’t ready by the end of 2006, the interim budget puts the city in a position to operate legally.

Coun. Mark Boudreau was absent from the meeting, dealing with an illness in Ottawa.

City officials did not provide any numbers on the interim budget for January.

The next meeting of Iqaluit’s city council is scheduled for Jan. 9.
