Tourists will be able to fly directly onto Greenland’s huge ice cap and travel by dog team this summer, as tour operators try to met tourists’ expectation of what they want to do in Greenland.

“When foreigners think about coming to Greenland, the first thing they want to see is the ice cap and that’s all they want to know about,” said Nicolaisen Felmming, director of Ilulissat’s tourism office.

Greenland Tourism is owned 100 per cent by the home rule government of Greenland. It was founded in 1991 to promote sustainable tourism that helps to encourage a Greenlandic identity and maintain the country’s cultural values.
