Pang store hit by break-in

IQALUIT — A Pangnirtung man has been arrested in connection with a break-and-enter in that community.

Joelie Okalik, 43, was charged this week with one count of break-and-enter and one count of breach of probation.

Pangnirtung RCMP say they arrested Okalik after seeing him fleeing from the community’s High Arctic Enterprise store at around 2 a.m. Monday.

The store had been broken into but no items were taken, said RCMP Cpl. Ed Anderson.

Anderson said a watchful resident called police and told them a break-in was taking place.

Okalik is the older brother of Paul Okalik, Nunavut’s premier.
