A 27-year-old Pangnirtung man has been charged with first-degree murder.
Police arrested Denny Kilabuk on Oct. 14 after alleging he killed Diana Kilabuk on Oct. 12.
The accused was scheduled to appear at the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit Nov. 5 but refused to appear, according to the court record.
Police took a number of items from the Pangnirtung home in which they allege the crime was committed, including a knife, an address book and forensic swabs of the bedroom wall and the bathtub ledge, according to a seizure of property form.
Kilabuk was also involved in a short standoff in Pangnirtung in 2017.
His next scheduled appearance at the Iqaluit courthouse, via videofeed from the Baffin Correctional Centre, is Dec. 17.
