Pangnirtung is once again without a senior administrative officer.
Jack Hicks, who had been serving as the hamlet’s SAO since late 2024, confirmed this week he is no longer in the position. He declined to comment on the reasons for his departure in an email Tuesday.
Mayor Lynn Mike also declined to provide details.
“At this time, I’m not in a position to comment on this matter, as it involves confidential personnel information,” Mike said in an emailed statement Tuesday.
Hicks previously worked for Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami as a senior policy adviser for mental wellness and was its executive director when ITK was still known as Inuit Tapirisat of Canada.
His departure adds to the turnover among Pangnirtung’s senior administrative officers. Publicly available information suggests the community has employed at least six different SAOs over the past 12 years.
In addition to Hicks, they include Ron Mongeau, who held the SAO position in 2013 and was followed by interim SAO Ed Murphy until 2015. Jamie Evic, Jim Crawford and Ron Ladd each served in the role in subsequent years.
The hamlet council has not announced a replacement SAO or interim appointment to succeed Hicks.
