Pope Francis’ visit to Iqaluit was only a few hours, but there was plenty to see at Nakasuk Elementary School on Friday.

Francis arrived at Iqaluit International Airport at about 3:40 p.m. and took off for his flight to Rome at 8:15 p.m.

The head of the Roman Catholic Church came to the Nunavut capital on the final day of his six-day Canadian visit, which he called a “pilgrimage of penance.”

On Monday, in Alberta, Francis said he was “deeply sorry” for what some members of his church did over the years while running many of Canada’s 139 residential schools.

Here are some of the sights from Iqaluit on Friday.
