Parks Canada employee faces child porn charge

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

David Lawrence Smith, 39, of Iqaluit, has been charged with possessing pornographic images of children.

Lawrence is a biologist with the federal government’s Parks Canada department.

Elizabeth Seale, superintendent of federal parks in Nunavut, declined to comment on the matter.

“We don’t discuss human resources issues,” she said.

When asked if Smith was still working with Parks Canada, Seale replied, “He’s not in the office today.”

RCMP initially said the charges arose from evidence seized during a search of a residence.

However, the police now confirm that additional evidence obtained from the search of his workplace also contributed to the charges.
