There will be a partial power outage over two days in Iqaluit this weekend, according to Qulliq Energy Corp.

Saturday’s outage will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and affect the 100s and 200s block area of Iqaluit including parts of Nipisa Street, Umiaq Crescent and Sinaa Street.

Nakasuk School and buildings 672,670, 329 and 89-99 will also be affected, Qulliq said.

The Government of Nunavut also announced Iqaluit Centennial library will be closed Saturday due to the power outage.

Qulliq said the outage is required while crews install two electrical poles on Palaugaa Drive.

The outage on Sunday will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and affect customers in the core area and lower 100s to 300s from Mivvik Street to the cemetery, Qulliq said.

That includes Palaugaa Drive, Umiaq Crescent, Nipisa and Sinaa Streets and part of Queen Elizabeth Way.

Northmart, Nakasuk School and the Elders Qqmmaq will be affected, Qulliq said.

Sunday’s outage is needed for workers’ safety as they conduct system upgrades.

This is poorly planned, this should be done when folks are at work this less people affected, now hundreds are going to be home without power on a weekend! Two days back to back. I wonder if QEC can pay for breakfast, lunch and supper for those two day for all affected residents,. 🙁

Al lot of us in this area are not as fortunate as you. Lack of food in this area is real. You take it for granted many of us struggle to have one good meal a day! SFU!

It was planned, if you weren’t prepared that is your own fault.

If it was during work days or any other time you’d be asking for something anyways
