Photo: Baker Lake’s Blizzards are tops in soccer

The artificial turf playing field inside Kugluktuk’s recreational complex saw a lot of action this past weekend, as soccer players from Baker Lake, Iqaluit, Rankin Inlet, Kugluktuk, Kugaaruk, Cambridge Bay and Fort Simpson in the Northwest Territories played game after game of soccer. When the tournament ended, the Kugluktuk Grizzlies came first in the under-18 girls category, while Baker Lake’s team, the Blizzards (shown here), took first in the under-18 boys category. “There is an old proverb that stays with me. The old proverb is we must fear the strength of youth. I encourage all young Nunavummiut to continue contributing to society, and I want to thank all youth and young adults for continuing to voice their concerns,” Moses Aupaluktuk, MLA for Baker Lake, said Nov. 1 in the Nunavut legislature, as he congratulated his home team’s win.
