Photo: Cambridge Bay raises avid readers

Cambridge Bay’s May Hakongak Library is encouraging kids to read through its “Reading Rocks” competition, sponsored by the local stores. Here, Nicholas Ekpakohalok holds up his winning “Reading Rocks” binder. Nicholas, like other Reading Rocks participants, agreed to read 10 books. Every time he read a book, he wrote the title in an inuksuk rock page in his binder. Once he read 10, he got to choose a prize, and put his name into a draw. Every week the library choses two name from this pot, and one winner wins a gift certificate from the Co-Op and the other wins one from the Northern.
