Photo essay contest offers cash
Youth between the ages of 15 and 21 could win hundreds of dollars in a photo essay contest sponsored by the Nunavut Literacy council.
The contest encourages youth to give their take on a subject or issue of their choice, using a camera and a pen. Youth can submit photographs with either an essay, poem, or other written work to accompany it. There are four categories, with young men and women judged separately in Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun and English or French.
Top prize in each category is $500, second is $200 and third prize is $100. The top 10 winning submissions will be added to the council’s website.
For those who don’t have a camera of their own, the Nunavut Literacy Council will supply a disposable camera to the first 30 youth who apply. The council will also pay for the cost of all film and disposable cameras sent to them.
Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Nov. 30, 2005. For more information, call the Nunavut Literacy Council at 867-983-2678.
