Photo: Kangirsuk honours its heroes

By JANE GEORGE

May 31, a proud evening for everyone attending a gala at Sautjuit School in Kangirsuk to celebrate the achievements of their youth and honour those who saved their fellow citizens from drowning and dogs. Here, Martha Keleutak, holding her daughter, listens with Joseph Annahatak, the vice-chair of the Kativik Regional Government, to Eyestiak Simigak. Simigak received an award and a gift of hunting equipment, for his role in saving Keleutak's daughter from an attack by four vicious stray dogs last December. The six-year-old was walking home from school when four loose huskies approached her and started to bite her. Simigak and his son Simonie, also honoured May 31, pulled her away.
