Meet Nunavut’s food bank police. For the entire afternoon of June 17, these RCMP summer students from around Nunavut drove around Iqaluit “arresting” local citizens for a Jail ‘n’ Bail fundraiser held to raise money for the Niqinik Nuatsivik Nunavut Food Bank. The incarcerated local jailbirds were freed from detention only after pledging donations to the food bank. The summer students are among 14 young Nunavummiut who graduated June 17 from a one-week preparatory course. They’ll spend eight weeks working with regular RCMP officers on low-risk, non-emergency situations, learning skills like note-taking, introductory law and drug awareness. (PHOTO BY JIM BELL
