Photo: Nanny freed

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

The Nanny, which ran aground in the eastern approach to the Simpson Strait near Gjoa Haven Sept. 1, was successfully refloated early on Sept. 15. The vessel is seen here with the Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker Henry Larsen. The refloating effort, which began on Sept. 13, involved the transfer of fuel off the Nanny and on to another Woodward’ ship, the Tuvaq. Lightening a ship reduces the ship’s weight, allowing it to refloat. (PHOTO/CCG)
