Photo: No full house, just three of a kind

When the Nunavut Electoral Boundaries Commission sat down for a public hearing Jan 11 at the francophone centre in Iqaluit, fate did not deal them a full house, but they did end up with three of a kind. No Iqaluit residents showed up to make comments or offer submissions — just support staff and three lonely reporters. The commission’s chair, Judge Ted Richard, used the occasion to host an impromptu press conference. Here, Patricia Bell of CBC North, standing in the corner to the left, prepares to get the ball rolling. The commission must recommend electoral boundaries and constituency names for Nunavut legislative assembly seats in a report they expect to submit by June of this year. On Jan. 12 they’ll hold a hearing in Qikiqtarjuaq and on Jan. 13 they’ll hold a hearing in Kimmirut. Nunavut residents can find more information about the commission at www.nunavutboundaries.ca.
