Photo: Square dancers whoop it up in Kugluktuk

Square dancers from around the Kitikmeot danced throughout this past weekend at a dance “showdown” in Kugluktuk. Gjoa Haven dancers placed first in the adult competition, followed by dancers from Kugluktuk and Cambridge Bay. Dance groups each danced two times on Friday night and then again on Saturday night. For the Sunday night showdown, the three top adult teams and Kugluktuk’s Ukaliit youth dancers competed, with the youth dancers winning the showdown and a $5,000 grand prize. (PHOTO BY VANESSA MOSEK)
