Photo: Veteran leader to chair the Inuit Circumpolar Council

Aqqaluk Lynge, 62, of Greenland, returned as leader of the Inuit Circumpolar Council July 1, when delegates at the organization’s general assembly acclaimed him to the position. Lynge last held the job between 1997 and 2002. In his acceptance speech, he outlined a vision of the Inuit future that includes healthy and happy children, clean water, respected and involved elders, “a modest and sustainable economy,” and a “strong social fabric.” (PHOTO BY LEIFF JOSEFSEN, SERMITSIAQ)
