June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and Lucassie Nappaaluk and Bobby Snowball from Nunavik’s Elder Association, shown here at the recent meeting of the Kativik Regional Government, are working to end the abuse of elders in Nunavik. All Nunavimmiut are urged to wear purple and to go outside at 3:00 p.m. to honk their vehicle’s horns, as a way of showing support for elders and the day’s theme “Let’s love our elders.” Many Nunavik communities also planned parades and activities for elders.
