A photography project will come to Kuujjuaq this week to capture the faces of Nunavik men and women.
Quebec photographer NathB, who is behind a project called 10,000 visages universe’elles, aims to snap 10,000 portraits from all across the province – and about 300 in Kuujjuaq.
The pictures will be used to create banners to be displayed at the World March of Women event happening in Rimouski, Quebec next month.
On Saturday, Sept. 25, people of all ages can come to be photographed at the Nunavik regional board of health and social services building in Kuujjuaq, between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m.
The health board isn’t directed involved in the project, says the health board’s communication agent Eric Duchesneau, although they’re offering space and other support to the photographer and her team.
“We think it’s a really great project,” Duchesneau said.
Since last May, NathB and her team have travelled throughout Quebec in their Caravan du Bonheur (caravan of happiness), a bus painted pink to acknowledge the fight against breast cancer.
The caravan won’t make it as far as Kuujjuaq, but NathB and her team hope to offer people the chance to be part of the movement.
While the project normally asks for a $10 contribution, that donation is voluntary for in Kuujjuaq.
All participants can pick their final shot to be used for the project and keep two prints for themselves.
The 10,000 faces of Quebec will be on display in Rimouski on Oct. 17. The World March of Women aims to achieve equality and respect for all women.
