People in Iqaluit will soon get the chance to build their own video game.
Non-profit organization Pinnguaq is organizing the event, called Game Jam, where participating Iqalummiut will team up to build a game from scratch with the help of coding experts.
“Game Jams are a great way to learn the basics of video game making, and to see your ideas start to appear on screen,” said Ben Westwell, education facilitator for Pinnguaq.
Pinnguaq’s mission is to provide opportunities for people in remote Indigenous communities to learn STEM skills – science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Westwell said no experience is needed to attend the session and Iqalummiut can come with friends or join a team once they register.
The event will be held at Makerspace in Iqaluit on Jan. 3, 5 and 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Pinnguaq will be providing all of the computer software and hardware. Anyone who has registered can come into Makerspace during the event’s hours.
Iqalummiut can register by calling Pinnguaq at 867-979-2509, emailing iqaluitmakerspace@pinnguaq.com or filling out a form on the Pinnguaq website.
