Plans for new cemetery

Council is reviewing two possible sites for a new cemetery.

Dillon Consulting, which conducted the preliminary site assessment, has recommended that further tests be done on sites at Apex Road Hill and West 40 near the old airport runway.

The consulting firm has suggested that the Apex Road site should undergo a geo-technical study to assess soil depth. It also suggested that West 40 was inappropriate as it has drainage problems, land use conflicts and soil contamination as a result of being used as a metal dump.

However, if it is found that the Apex Road site doesn’t have sufficient soil cover, the city will have to explore other potential sites.
