One person died in a fire in Coral Harbour this week, police say.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. George Henrie said emergency crews were called to a blaze Tuesday evening in the hamlet and that one person was pronounced dead.

Police didn’t say if there were any other injuries, or whether the fire occurred in a residence. The name and age of the victim were not released.

Mayor Patterk Nester said he was aware of the fire but wouldn’t say anything about it because it’s under investigation.

The RCMP, along with the Nunavut Fire Marshal’s office and the coroner’s office, are investigating.

The fire marshal’s office referred questions about the fire to the Department of Community and Government Services, but the department had not responded to questions as of Thursday afternoon.
