The Sûreté du Québec has been called in to investigate after the body of a woman was found inside a Puvirnituq home.
Nunavik Police Service officers were called to the residence at around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, said provincial police Sgt. Béatrice Dorsainville in a French phone interview.
They found the body of a 79-year-old woman. She was transported to the Inuulitsivik Health Centre in Puvirnituq, where she was pronounced dead.
“Since the circumstances behind the death are nebulous, investigators from the [Sûreté du Québec’s] crimes against the person division took over the file,” Dorsainville said.
Investigators from the provincial police force and a forensics investigator are looking into the scene in Puvirnituq.
No arrests have been made yet, and police have not determined whether the death is a crime or not.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Dorsainville said.
