RCMP say somebody used blue dolly to steal safe on Jan. 10
RCMP in Iqaluit are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect following a break-in at the Qulliq Energy Corp. office earlier this month.
RCMP say they received the report on Jan. 10 of the incident, which occurred at the utility’s office on Umiaq Crescent.
Video footage shows someone broke in at around 5:25 a.m., and a lone suspect stole a “distinctive white safe” using a blue dolly, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.
The suspect’s face was covered and they were wearing a black, puffy winter jacket turned inside out and a hat or face covering with a white logo.
The release follows a Jan. 12 Facebook notice from QEC that said a break-in may have exposed some customer records.
The corporation said that while roughly 800 customers signed up for credit card pre-authorization, the stolen safe did not contain records for all of them.
It held a number of files with names, mailing addresses and some billing-related details linked to pre-authorized payment arrangements that were temporarily stored for administrative processing, said QEC communications officer Bibi Bilodeau.
Bilodeau did not specify how many customers are affected.
The corporation said there is no evidence that any customer information has been misused, but advised Iqaluit customers to review recent bank or credit card statements for unusual activity.

It still surprises me how many buildings in Nunavut are not alarmed..
You might even say it’s “alarming.”
