Pond Inlet co-op considers expansion

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

The board of directors of the Toonoonik-Sahoonik Co-op in Pond Inlet is studying the possibility of building a new hotel and conference centre in the community.

Staff at the store will collect signatures of members to judge support of the project.

The proposed facility is seen as an opportunity for increased tourism and for the community to benefit from money spent on travel by various Nunavut organizations.

“As more Inuit organizations travel throughout Nunavut to hold meetings, the people of Pond Inlet can benefit by offering the latest in conference accommodation,” a co-op press release said.
