Pond shooter appears in court

A Pond Inlet man accused of attempted murder made his first appearance in court this week.

Rueben Sangoya, 19, was arrested following a shooting spree in the community June 20.

According to an RCMP press release, Sangoya shot four buildings, a police vehicle, an ATV and a dog. The dog died, but no people were injured in the incident.

During the court appearance Tuesday, the court clerk read the charges to Sangoya.
He is charged with attempting to murder RCMP Cpl. Grant MacDonald and community constable Norman Simonie.

Sangoya is scheduled to appear in court again on
Sept. 5.
