A dog suspected of having rabies has been euthanized after attacking other dogs in Naujaat.
The Department of Health issued a public health advisory Thursday about the situation.
The dog was euthanized March 31 and its body was sent for testing to confirm the presence of the virus, the advisory said.
Anyone in the community who has been recently bitten or scratched by a dog or fox is urged to visit the health centre immediately.
Rabies infections are nearly always fatal without prompt treatment.
The advisory also asks people in Naujaat to monitor outdoor domestic animals, especially those tied up, for signs of rabies.
Rabies symptoms include strange or aggressive behaviour, staggering, frothing at the mouth, choking, or unusual vocalizations. Wild animals may appear unusually friendly and approach humans without fear.
Animals showing these symptoms should be avoided and reported to the regional environmental health office or conservation officer, the advisory said.
