A precautionary boil water advisory is in place for Kuujjuaq until a piece can be replaced at the community’s water treatment plant.
The broken piece is a part of the plant’s meter reading system, and the plant operator is working with technicians at the Kativik Regional Government to replace it, said municipal manager Ron Gordon.
It is not expected that the issue has put the water quality at risk, but the boil water advisory was put in place by the Northern Village as a preventive measure.
The advisory was issued on Tuesday, Aug. 20, and it is hoped the new part will arrive in the next couple of days.
Kativik Municipal Public Works released its own notice to boil for Kuujjuaq residents on Aug. 22, advising boiling water for at least two minutes before drinking. It also noted this is a preventive measure and will remain in place until further notice.
