Pride flag flies high at Nunavut legislature

Outside the Nunavut legislative assembly Tuesday morning, Speaker Tony Akoak raises the 2SLGBTQ+ Pride flag at a ceremony attended by at least a dozen MLAs and legislature employees. The flag is set to fly throughout June, which is Pride Month. Akoak reminded Nunavut’s 2SLGBTQ+ community members “to always be proud of yourselves.” (Photo by Jeff Pelletier)

June is also men mental health month. There needs to be a HUGE highlight on this. Gov buildings should only be flying 3 flags, Canada flag, Nunavut flag and the city flag.

Raising the pride flag does not lower the others.

Celebrating Pride does nothing to diminish men’s mental health issues.

As a queer Nunavummiut, seeing the rainbow flag at the Leg is very meaningful and sends a strong message to haters and nay-sayers.
Recognizing Pride, in a time when equal human rights rights that were hard fought for and won are in very real danger of being taken away, flying the rainbow flag a strong symbol of solidarity for anyone who faces oppression to just be who they are and love who they love.
    Thank you GN. Well done.

As long as you recognize all sexual orientations, just not privileged groups like the queer, then I’m good with it.
