Project review committee established
The Nunavut Community Economic Development Organization has established a Nunavut Project Review Committee to review applications for economic development and business support through both Aboriginal Business Canada and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada programs.
Indian and Northern Affairs Canada is investing $450,000 over three years to support the committee, which is made up of business leaders from the three regional Inuit associations and Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. The goal is to streamline the process for project consideration and approval.
Over the next three years, Aboriginal Canada funds of up to $50,000 each will be available to Nunavut businesses applying for support with business start-up in the areas of tourism, innovation, market development and youth business.
The project review committee will be able to approve these proposals in Nunavut and will also make recommendations on Indian and Northern Affairs Canada economic proposals, with the final decision resting with the federal body. These programs include the Economic Development Opportunity Fund, the resource Acquisition Initiative and the Major Business Projects Program.
