Nunavik man charged with second-degree murder after attack in Puvirnituq
Man found dead early Feb. 25, another woman injured after early-morning incident

A Nunavik man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of another man in Puvirnituq last week.
Inuksiak Nowrakallak also faces an attempted murder charge connected to an alleged attack on a woman the same day.
Nunavik Police Service officers responded to an apparent assault on Feb. 25 at around 3 a.m. at a home in Puvirnituq. Officers arrived to find a woman with serious injuries, who was taken to hospital.
Police were then led to another home, where officers discovered a dead man, according to Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Sgt. Nancy Fournier. The victim has been identified as Qalingo Sivurarapik, 36.
Nowrakallak appeared in court in Amos, Que., Monday afternoon on charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder, the Crown’s office in Amos confirmed.
The Crown objected to Nowrakallak’s release. He is scheduled to appear in court again on March 11.
Police said the woman is expected to recover from her injuries.
