Rank and file protest higher pay for new KRPF recruits

Petition seeks increase of two pay scales for existing officers

Rank and file members of the Nunavik Police Association don’t like the idea of higher pay for new recruits.

They want to see existing members of the Kativik Regional Police Force receive a pay increase first.

That’s why they’re circulating a petition, which says they disagree with the resolution their bosses and union executives recently approved.

The resolution increases the pay of new recruits, in order to attract new members to the force.

“We understand that there is a serious manpower shortage, and that there is pressure for our employer to improve conditions so that the manpower issue is resolved,” reads the petition.

The petition says the signatories want all KRPF members to move up two pay scales and suggests the creation of two additional pay levels for those who are already at the maximum level.

The petition also wants any changes to the pay scale to be settled at the bargaining table for the members’ collective agreement, which they point out expired 15 months ago.

“We believe that by coming to an agreement on the collective agreement, that the employer and the union have the ability to make the job more attractive, and that the police force will finally be able to move forward.”
