Rankin man gets 13-years for manslaughter
Yvo Airut Jr., 23 was sentenced to 13 years and four months in jail after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the strangulation death of Joachim Tartuk, 41.
Police found Tartuk dead following a drunken dispute at Airut’s home on Dec. 18, 2000.
An autopsy found that Airut had strangled Tartuk to death.
In handing down her sentence in Rankin Inlet on April 23, Justice Beverly Browne issued an order prohibiting Airut from possessing firearms or ammunition for the rest of his life.
