RCMP arrest suspect in Pangnirtung shooting

The RCMP has arrested a 21-year-old man in relation to a shooting in Pangnirtung on Tuesday afternoon.
Police received reports of gunshots at around 4:03 p.m. Tuesday. Ten minutes later, they arrested Jonah Kuniliusie, according to a news release issued by Sgt. George Henrie on Thursday.
Kuniliusie faces two counts of endangering life, two counts of pointing a firearm, two counts of aggravated assault, and the unlawful possession of a weapon in public. He also faces three counts for breach of probation.
The RCMP was not immediately available to answer questions about the incident.
Deputy mayor Markus Wilcke said the event harmed everyone in the community, either directly or indirectly, including children who were nearby when the shooting happened.
Kuniliusie remains in custody and will have his next court appearance on Oct. 20 in Iqaluit.
