RCMP charge 28-year-old man with attempted murder

A 28-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and breach of probation, according to an RCMP news release.

Police charged Kevin Mathewsie, 28, on July 24, according to the release.

The charges stem from a July 23 incident, when police responded to a disturbance at a residence in Iqaluit’s Joamie Court neighbourhood.

Officers found a man, 39, suffering from a life-threatening stab wound, the release states. Emergency services took the man to Qikiqtani General Hospital where he was stabilized and medevaced to Ottawa.

The investigation is ongoing, RCMP said.

Mathewsie is scheduled to appear in court on August 11 in Iqaluit.
