Police in Kinngait took one person into custody Friday afternoon, about 30 minutes after reporting that shots had been fired near the RCMP detachment.

The RCMP cancelled the shelter order it issued at 4:34 in a three-sentence Twitter message.

Police had asked people to avoid the area around the police station and to stay inside their homes.

They lifted that notice at 4:53 p.m., also in a Twitter message.
