RCMP: Iqaluit death not suspicious

Police change assessment following autopsy results

By NUNATSIAQ NEWS

The Iqaluit RCMP now say the case of an Iqaluit man recently found dead at a house in Lower Base is not a suspicious death.

Police and emergency workers found the body of Pierre Cloutier, 56, inside house 725 at around 11:30 a.m. Jan. 29.

After securing the area and bringing in investigators from V division’s serious crimes unit, the RCMP then announced they were treating the incident as “a suspicious death.”

But an RCMP’s statment issued Feb. 8 now says an autopsy revealed that Cloutier’s death is not now considered “suspicious.”

Police also released Cloutier’s name Feb. 8, shortly after notifiying his next-of-kin.

At the same time, police are still seeking information from the public.

Anyone with knowledge or information about the incident is urged to call the Iqaluit RCMP detachment at 979-0123 or 979-1111.
