Monique Marie Sauvé

Monique passed away at the Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the age of 44, after a two-month battle with lung cancer.

Monique was born in Newcastle, N. B. and was last living in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.

Monique is survived by her loving partner, Doris Kulak Kingnektak, and her two dogs, Buddy and Icy; her parents Gilles and Lydia Laplante; two sisters Nicole (Patrick) Dunn and Simone (Kevin) Cummings; two nieces Casey Dunn and Emma Cummings; step-niece Nichole Nodwell, and nephew Dylan Cummings.

Monique was the general manager of Kitikmeot Foods Ltd. in Cambridge Bay. She organized the annual muskox harvests and the commercial fishing camps along with handling all the processing and administrative duties.

She had wonderful staff working with her that she treasured and spoke very highly of. Monique was outgoing, fun, free-willed and a loving spirit who was always helping others.

She was very generous. Monique had a zest for northern life and the outdoors that she shared with her loving partner Doris. Together they spent most of their free time hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, shopping on Ebay, or just hanging at home with friends and family.

According to Monique, their home has the “best view in Cambridge Bay” and one of her favourite activities was waking up early in the morning, listening to 80s music, peering out her window at the ocean and enjoying the wondrous beauty of it all. Monique will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Monique was cremated. Memorials will be held in Toronto, Ont; Miramichi, N.B. and Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. Monique’s ashes will be laid to rest at a later date in Brown Sound, Nunavut, a place which she truly loved.
