Jimmy Shappa, 26, is set to appear in Nunavut Court of Justice May 7 to face one count of possessing a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and one count of pointing a firearm.

Police say an intoxicated Arctic Bay man jumped into his truck after an argument with his wife at 10:30 p.m. on April 19, then abandoned the vehicle after running it off the road.

The man fled to a family member’s house and told the occupants to clear out. When a woman entered the house, the man pointed the gun at her and told her to leave.

RCMP officers convinced the man to surrender without any shots being fired.

Cpl. Clare Kines said the incident lasted two hours.
